FINALLY, the commercial that 2020 deserves.

Celebrity star Ryan Reynolds and his production company, Maximum Effort, have teamed up with dating service Match.com and pop icon Taylor Swift to make a commercial for the dating service that perfectly captures everything relatable and frankly, hellish, about 2020.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you’re married or single, I promise you everyone can find something relatable about this hilarious spin on our collective suffering.

The commercial, aptly titled “Match Made In Hell,” begins with Satan (Aaron Reed) hanging out in hell looking totally bored when his phone starts buzzing, notifying him he’s matched with a woman with the username “2020” (Natalie Roy).

Their first meeting occurs under a bridge in a city on Earth, where the couple feels an instant spark, shall we say.

“Satan?” 2020 asks tentatively, as she cautiously approaches him.

“Hi! Two-Zero-Two-Zero?”

“Please, call me 2020.”

“So, where you from?” she asks as they take off together.

“Hell.”

“Me, too.”

As the Deadpool star put it in a tweet on Wednesday announcing the commercial’s release on his YouTube channel: “A match made in hell is still a match.”

And boy, is this fiery romance one for the books.

The commercial just keeps getting better as Satan and 2020 do various activities with a 2020-style twist. The camera pans from the couple feeding each other red hot peppers during a picnic in an empty sports stadium, to working out together in a socially distanced gym, to watching a movie in a vacant theatre.

Of course, they cap it off by stealing toilet paper out of the theatre bathroom (I mean, if that isn’t perfect, I don’t know what is).

I was laughing so hard by this point that I almost missed when 2020 playfully tries to drag Satan into a church, and then they take a selfie together in front of a literal dumpster fire.

Talk about relatable.

Meanwhile, a new version of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” plays in the background, which is basically the perfect soundtrack for the commercial because of how the catchy pop melody directly contrasts with the insanely dismal reality of the whole year.

Apparently Swift gave Reynolds special permission to use the clip from the re-record especially for the commercial:

“Okay so while my new re-records are NOT done, my friend @vancityreynolds asked me if he could use a snippet of one for a LOLsome commercial he wrote,” Swift tweeted. “So…here’s a sneak peak of Love Story! Working hard to get the music to you soon!!”

 

The commercial ends with the couple sitting together on a bench overlooking the city while meteors plummet towards the earth.

“I just don’t want this year to end,” Satan muses.

“Who would?” 2020 replies.

Yep, that just about sums it up.
